The Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan recently organized a blood donation drive at the Mengo Hospital Rotary Blood Bank. This project was initiated to support the children at the Mulago Children’s Cancer Ward, whose treatment and recovery rely heavily on blood transfusions. During the event, participants toured the blood bank to understand the journey of blood from donation to storage, including crossmatching, grouping, processing, and eventual use by patients. We also learned about the importance of blood components—red cells, plasma, and platelets—each providing crucial support to different medical needs. Every donation has the potential to help multiple patients, further emphasizing the importance of such drives. This initiative will benefit numerous children in need, and we encourage everyone to continue donating blood, as you never know when it will save a life. Thank you to all who participated and supported this life-saving cause!

In recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Children’s Cancer Ward has reported a significant rise in patient numbers, likely due to enhanced sensitization efforts. We understand that cancer treatment is costly and affects many who cannot afford proper care. The Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan began supporting Children’s Cancer Ward two years ago after witnessing the dire circumstances faced by the children. Our goal is to improve their quality of life, focusing on nutritional and essential care. This year, we provided much-needed nutritional and personal care items to the ward. The project directly benefits over 50 children at the ward, who are battling various types of cancer, such as Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Osteosarcoma, among others. These donations help alleviate the immediate burden on the ward, while offering hope and support to the families of the affected children. Join us in creating more success stories for these young warriors.
